Business Spotlight

Patients need care and, often times, the care that makes their condition or state of mind improve is not found in a clinic or a hospital.  In a modest building in Arlington, MA, away from waiting rooms with outdated magazines, is where you will find Visiting Nurse and Community Health, commonly referred to as VNCH.  By definition, VNCH is a visiting nurse agency but, in actuality, it is a connection to patients, families and caregivers that impacts an array of lives in a positive and healing way.

Though our “age” is 110, according to the number of years we have been providing home care to members of 22 communities, we are “young” in terms of being flexible, adaptive and modern.  We connect with our patients and their families/caregivers in a hands-on, realistic way that allows us to partner with them and set them up for success.

At VNCH, we see a person as more than one part, more than one ailment, more than one condition.  Even though one particular issue may need attention at the present time, we strive to look at the person as a whole.  Clinicians strategize about the best way to treat a patient’s clinical needs by looking at the entirety of that individual.  What makes that person tick?  What will give him or her incentive to be compliant with a treatment plan?  What makes him or her laugh, smile and be happy?  These are all things that we begin considering upon our first steps into a patient’s home.

Each of our patients is unique; this is the philosophy that we bring to every one of our care programs.  Through providing clinical nursing services, physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as social work and home health aide services, we make an enormous impact on the lives of patients by not looking at them as being generic.

VNCH is celebrating our soon-to-be-launched Hospice Care program, as through this mission we will have the ability to reach into the hearts of our patients and families who are dealing with end-of-life issues.  Many people prefer to spend this time in the comfortable and safe environment of home, if possible.  In order to do so they need support, as do their families, to help with the often challenging medical and emotional needs that arise.  Via avenues such as our Hospice Care volunteer program, which is a wonderful way for community members to be part of our mission, we will be able to bring peace into the lives and homes of a mom/ dad/ brother/sister/grandparent/ neighbor.  That opportunity and outcome is a blessing for all, including us at Visiting Nurse and Community Health.

Being allowed into a person’s home is not a job, it is a privilege.  We at VNCH take that privilege very seriously and hold ourselves to high standards, medically, professionally and ethically.  We are proud to be welcomed into not only patient’s homes, but also their lives.  The bonds that are formed by VNCH’s interactions with our patients are far too numerous to mention, but are indelible in terms of impact.
